Water Can Cut A Lock In Half

A Twitter video uploaded today showed a jet of pressurised water going through a lock and cutting it in half. But is this true?

In short, yes. If a strong beam of water is focused on an object, the affects can be devastating. Take tsunamis for example. They are just huge waves of water, so how can they have any more affect than a tap in someone's home?

Humans is the answer. Sea water is too salty for us to drink, so it has to undergo a series of tests and machines before it can come out of your tap. But these machines also change the properties of water, so that explains why you don't cut your mouth in half every time you have a drink of water.

Adding to this, the scale of the tsunami and pressure counts. As you may have noticed with fizzy drinks, some liquids can't be squeezed for too long, if they're bubbly, so eventually they will just POP!
